Rules for verification

We want to maintain a high standard of accuracy and consistency across all verified answers.

  • Accuracy and Research Support. Ensure the AI response is factually correct and supported by appropriate primary legal sources, including relevant legislation, case law, or court rules. Where the AI-generated answer omits required legal authority or contains inaccuracies, the verifier must correct and supplement the answer so that it is properly supported.
  • Vague Questions. Briefly outline assumptions at the outset of your answer if necessary. If you are not comfortable with the vagueness of a question, do not allocate yourself the question.
  • Succinctness & Readability. Refine the AI-generated answer by removing repetitive, irrelevant, or incorrect information (such as hallucinated cases or incorrect legislation). Ensure the answer is well-structured, logically ordered, and free from grammatical, punctuation, formatting, or duplication errors. Use clear subheadings and paragraphs to improve readability, and provide sufficient substance to address all key issues raised by the question, while remaining concise and directly relevant.
  • Pinpoint Legislative Reference. Do not provide generic legislative references but instead provide pinpoint references to relevant section, regulation or rule. e.g. do not refer to Family Law Act 1975 (Cth) but instead point to the appropriate section of the legislation that applies to the user’s question.
  • Remove Personally Identifiable Information (PII). PII is any information that can identify an individual or entity, either on its own or when combined with other information. If you identify any PII, you must remove it. The PII Check may prompt you to remove potential PII from the answer. For example, names, business names, entities, case numbers, addresses, contact details, and specific dates (unless the date is essential to the answer and does not have the potential to identify an individual or entity when combined with other information in the answer).
  • Substantive Coverage. Ensure the verified answer identifies and addresses all substantive legal issues raised by the question. Where the AI-generated answer omits an issue, principle, or explanation necessary to properly answer the question, the verifier must add it. The answer should be clearly structured and provide sufficient legal substance to assist the user’s research, with the level of detail proportionate to the complexity of the question, while remaining concise and avoiding exhaustive or academic analysis.
  • Do not plagiarise. Ensure that you are not copying and pasting your answers from other sources. 
  • Do not verify templates. This includes letters, emails, orders, wills, agreements, forms, or other documents. Instead, contact LawY if you notice that a template has been submitted for verification.
  • Do not include generic statements. Do not include phrases like "seek legal advice" or "consult a legal professional." You can still suggest non-legal specialists when relevant (e.g., "consult a tax accountant").
  • Do not misuse LawY for verification. You can use LawY's Instant or Deep Research features to assist in preparing the verified answer, provided you review the AI-generated content first and confirm it is correct. However, do not use LawY's verified answer feature (i.e., do not submit a question for verification as a user) when preparing a verified answer.
